James Drake was born in Lubbock, Texas in 1946 and currently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has had many museum exhibitions including the New Mexico Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, SITE Santa Fe, Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas Austin, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Amarillo Arts Center. He was included in the 52nd International Art Exposition Venice Biennale Think with the Senses Feel with the Mind curated by Robert Storr in 2007 as well as the 2000 Whitney Biennial.
