Debra Barrera was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and currently lives and works in Houston, Texas. She received her Masters of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Houston and her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and in English from the University of Texas at Austin. Her work has recently been included in a solo exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. She also recently completed a permanent installation for Rice Public Art and the Department of Physics and Astronomy and upon its completion is included in the permanent collection of Rice University. She had a solo exhibition at Moody Gallery in 2012, in conjunction with Drive Me There and Back Again, her project included in the Blaffer Art Museum's Window Into Houston exhibition series. Her work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions including the 2013 Texas Biennial at Blue Star Contemporary Art, San Antonio as well as at Alabama Song, Houston, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Dallas, and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Beaumont.
