David McManaway was born in Chicago, IL in 1927 and lived and worked much of his life in Dallas, Texas, where he died in 2010.  He studied at the University of Arkansas from 1953-58.  He was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship (1977) and an Engelhard Award from the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, MA (1991).  McManaway’s work is part of the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Menil Collection, Houston, Dallas Museum of Art, Fort Worth Modern, Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, and the Blanton Museum of Art, University of Texas, Austin.  His work has been included in exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Menil Collection, Houston; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Dallas Museum of Art; Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Beaumont; Art Museum of South Texas, Corpus Christi; San Antonio Museum of Art; Southern Methodist University Gallery, Dallas; Arlington Museum of Art; The Grace Museum, Abilene; Witte Museum, San Antonio; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
