Moody Gallery is proud to present Infinite Particularities, Grafts, and Taxidermy, an exhibition of recent paintings and works on paper by Randy Twaddle. Infinite Particularities, Grafts, and Taxidermy, Twaddle’s twelfth solo show at the gallery since 1985, is on view November 7 – December 23, 2026.

For Infinite Particularities, Grafts, and Taxidermy, Twaddle looks to the forms of nature, which he describes as an “irresistible source of inspiration.” In his latest works on paper, the artist uses black gouache to render imagined botanical life in silhouette. Devoid of color, except the beige of the paper, his neatly arranged and balanced compositions present plant life and root systems in a manner that evokes the formality of traditional portraiture and the narrative quality of religious and history paintings. The stark gouaches show the branches of trees intertwined, stems sprouting from the earth, and roots stretching out to one another. Without personifying or anthropomorphizing his subjects, Twaddle gives character, action, and life to plant forms. In his recent poetic and poignant paintings, Twaddle confronts themes of futility, loss, and humankind’s “misguided attempts to remedy loss.” His achromatic paintings, rich with symbolic potential, feature skeletal trees built from the artist’s imagination, their limbs adorned with questionable plant grafts, taxidermy, and more.

Randy Twaddle (b. Elmo, Missouri, 1957) currently lives and works in Pine Island, Texas. He serves as the Executive Director and Artist in Residence of The John Fairey Garden Conservation Foundation.
